This week Tanz im August will present a diverse programme, among the performances there will be five German premieres and one European premiere. Following festival director Virve Sutinen's credo, the choreographers will address the life realities of our western world.
On 24. + 25.8. in HAU1 laughter will be staged as an involuntary reflex that takes over the body. In AH|HA
by the Belgian collective Voetvolk
, which was founded by the choreographer Lisbeth Gruwez
and musician Maarten Van Cauwenberghe
, the dancers will disect laughter and enhance it into a choreographic frenzy. On Thursday after the second performance the musician Maarten Van Cauwenberghe will work the turntables at the party in WAU.
At Haus der Berliner Festspiele the French choreographer Yoann Bourgeois
and the Centre Choréographique national de Grenoble
will fathom the realms of dance and acrobatics on 26. + 27.8. In Celui qui tombe
the six performers will seek their equilibrium on an unsteadily balanced platform. The performers also reach unimagined states of levitation in EVERYNESS

From 25. till 27.8. the underground performance of niv Acosta
will be brought to the theatre stage of Sophiensaele. Discotropic

collective on 25.8. for an On the Sofa
panel discussion on voguing. On 27.8. the festival and the collective will team up once more for the Tanz im August Voguing Out Party

, shown on 24. + 25.8. at HAU2, the choreography based around square dance seeks an order on stage that's infiltrated by chaos. Precision is also a key component in Relative Collider
by Liz Santoro & Pierre Godard
