Voguing Out Party
This week Tanz im August will present a diverse programme, among the performances there will be five German premieres and one European premiere. Following festival director Virve Sutinen's credo, the choreographers will address the life realities of our western world.

On 24. + 25.8. in HAU1 laughter will be staged as an involuntary reflex that takes over the body. In AH|HA by the Belgian collective Voetvolk, which was founded by the choreographer Lisbeth Gruwez and musician Maarten Van Cauwenberghe, the dancers will disect laughter and enhance it into a choreographic frenzy. On Thursday after the second performance the musician Maarten Van Cauwenberghe will work the turntables at the party in WAU.

At Haus der Berliner Festspiele the French choreographer Yoann Bourgeois and the Centre Choréographique national de Grenoble will fathom the realms of dance and acrobatics on 26. + 27.8. In Celui qui tombe the six performers will seek their equilibrium on an unsteadily balanced platform. The performers also reach unimagined states of levitation in  EVERYNESS by Wang Ramirez at Radialsystem. With the company's unique movement style, which has its roots in hip hop, ballet and martial arts, Wang Ramirez create expressive and poetic images on stage.

From 25. till 27.8. the underground performance of niv Acosta will be brought to the theatre stage of Sophiensaele. Discotropic combines twerking with Science Fiction and interrogates the racist representations of black bodies in the media. With voguing another danceform and subculture takes center stage in this week's programme: Tanz im August will team up with the Berlin Voguing Out collective on 25.8. for an On the Sofa panel discussion on voguing. On 27.8. the festival and the collective will team up once more for the Tanz im August Voguing Out Party at RADIALSYSTEM.

A different dancing style is the base for a performance by Nicole Beutler / NBprojects. In 6: THE SQUARE, shown on 24. + 25.8. at HAU2, the choreography based around square dance seeks an order on stage that's infiltrated by chaos. Precision is also a key component in Relative Collider by Liz Santoro & Pierre Godard. From 25. till 27.8. the performers of this work get themselves into a battle with an ever-complicating rhythmic pattern.

On 26. + 27.8. the experimental feature film Under Influence by choreographer and filmmaker Sidney Leoni will be shown admission free at HAU1. The movie takes the audience into the inner world of actress Julia Gordon. Sidney Leoni will also be on HAU1 stage together with Sebastian Matthias on 26.8. at walk+talk, a lecture-performance-format created by Philipp Gehmacher. This walk+talk is a cooperation by Tanz im August and Tanznacht Berlin. The programme for Tanznacht can be found here: www.tanznacht-berlin.de

This week sees two special events at the Bibliothek im August: On 26.8. at 17:00 Virve Sutinen and Andrea Niederbuchner will present the new catalogue "Rosemary Butcher. Memory in the Present Tense" to the public. This publication completes the Rosemary Butcher Retrospective, that was presented by Tanz im August in 2015. On 27.8. at 18:00 in another book presentation Nanako Nakajima will talk about her new book "The Aging Body in Dance".
